Our Team

Shira James is an occupational therapist, educator, and consultant with over 20 years of experience serving students in Arizona’s public, charter, and private schools. She began her career as a special education teacher, working in resource, inclusion, and self-contained classrooms before becoming a licensed occupational therapist. This dual background provides her with a strong understanding of both educational systems and therapy practice within school environments.

Shira founded Building Bridges Educational Services to support schools and professionals in implementing effective, collaborative, and neurodiversity-affirming practices. Through consulting, training, and mentorship, she works with educators, therapists, and school leaders to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and promote best practices that support meaningful student participation and access to learning.

Shira is the recipient of the 2025 A.T. Still University Alumni Community Service Award and is a regular guest lecturer at the university. She also serves as Director of Unity Salsa, 501(c)(3), a nonprofit she co-founded that uses music and dance to build community and support individuals in need. Across all of her work, Shira believes in the power of meaningful participation, human connection, and inclusive environments that allow every individual to thrive.
