Shira James, MS, OTR/L - Owner & Director of Therapy
Shira James is an experienced occupational therapist, educator, and community advocate with over 20 years of service in Arizona’s public, charter, and private schools. She began her career as a special education teacher and worked in resource, inclusion, and self-contained classrooms before becoming a licensed OT. With a passion for supporting students with disabilities, Shira brings a unique understanding of school systems and a commitment to collaborative, student-centered care.
Shira founded Building Bridges to address the growing need for high-quality special education professionals in Arizona. Drawing on her leadership experience, she created a company that connects schools with skilled Therapy Providers, School Psychologists, & Special Education Teachers. She is dedicated to providing mentorship and training for providers and helping schools access professionals aligned with best practices.
Shira is the recipient of the 2025 A.T. Still University Alumni Community Service Award, and is a regular guest-lecturer at the University. Shira also is the Director of Unity Salsa, a nonprofit she co-founded that uses music and dance to build community & help those in need. She believes in the power of meaningful occupation—whether in therapy, education, or creative expression—and continues to work at the intersection of clinical excellence and human connection.
Ryan James, M.Ed., Owner & Director of Operations
With nearly two decades of experience in Public Education, Ryan James has dedicated his career to Leadership and Service. His journey includes roles as a Teacher, School Administrator, & Special Education Coordinator, where he has consistently championed the needs of students with diverse learning requirements. Ryan's leadership has been instrumental in developing and sustaining positive school cultures rooted in compassion, professionalism, & a shared commitment to student success.
At Building Bridges, Ryan leverages his deep understanding of special education law, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) & Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, to provide schools with top-tier Therapists, School Psychologists, & Special Education Teachers. His collaborative approach ensures that each placement aligns with the unique culture and needs of each school community.
At the heart of Ryan's work is a belief in the power of strong, values-driven teams. He is passionate about building collaborative bridges that prioritize positivity, empathy, and a focus on helping others. Through Building Bridges, Ryan continues to extend his impact, connecting dedicated professionals with schools to create supportive and effective educational environments across Phoenix and the broader Arizona region.
